Ah yes. Welcome back to another installment of me just typing whatever comes to mind. Today we will be discussing uh... Things, I guess.
Me Discussing Things, I guess
First subject. So, I've seen three movies in theater recently but, how comes nobody's been talking about them after I watched them? The movies were Zombieland: Double Tap, Joker, and Doctor Sleep. Firstly, I didn't even hear people talking about Zombieland 2 or Doctor Sleep before seeing them. But, Joker was quite the popular movie because of its controversy. But, how comes nobody has been talking about them? Zombieland and the Shining were both very popular movies but, I have seen absolutely nobody talking about their sequels. And sure, yes I saw people talking about Joker a lot before I watched it, so perhaps its popularity just died down but, come on, what's the possibility of a film that controversial losing its popularity after only a month. Okay now to actually talk about these films...
Those Movies I Just Talked About but in Review (Spoiler Warning)
So, I guess I'll start with Zombieland: Double Tap because it's not too clear in my memory. Personally, I think it wasn't as good as the original but it was still pretty well done. The characters' acting was done quite fantastically, I'd have to say. Everyone seemed to fit their role really well. I also liked how the zombies evolved over time. That was a really nice way to make it a bit more interesting than your average everyday zombie. Surprisingly, they really didn't kill off any of the main cast. Well, sure they did kill off the guys who were very similar to Tallahassee and Columbus off, but were they really important to the plot? They were basically just joke characters, so it's fine killing them off as early as they did in my book. I don't really have much to say because personally, I think it was the worst out of the three films that I am going to be reviewing. I'm not saying that it was bad, I'm just saying it wasn't as good as the others, at least in my opinion.
Now, onto Doctor Sleep. I thought that Doctor Sleep was fighting with me to be better than the Shining. I'm not saying the Shining is bad or anything, I'm just saying that I didn't like how drawn out some of the scenes were. They just seemed to go on for too long. But, it's still a classic nonetheless. So, I am unsure at which is better. I think that Doctor Sleep was really well done. Well, that's probably because it was a Stephen King novel originally, and King movies usually are really good. I was kinda surprised how fast they killed off Rose's... acquaintances? We never really got to know them so, I'm fine with it. It was just shocking how easily and quickly they were killed off. I mean, would a basically immortal being that consumes souls not only to be younger but also to heal wounds really die that quickly to a simple gun? Well, I guess the answer is yes. I was also surprised how anticlimactic the final battle with Rose was. It was really just a mind battle in the maze and then I guess Dan freed the hotel's uh... I don't know what word would be best to describe them. I'll just say spooky creatures. Yeah so, Dan freed the spooky creatures from his mind boxes I guess and then they just like, ate Rose's soul. And then they did the same with Dan but gave him the same treatment his father got. The good ol' possession treatment. So, then he chases Abra, who I haven't even mentioned yet I guess, around the building like Jack did to Dan. Then I guess Dan snaps out of it and just remembers he turned on everything in the boiler room and uh... Abra escapes the Overlook and Dan just dies of burning to death I guess. Then it cuts to Abra in her room talking to spooky ghost Dan but not spooky and then she goes to the bathroom to put the good ol' naked grandma back in a box. So, overall, despite how critical I may have sounded about it, it was really well done.
Now, onto my favorite of all three of these movies. Joker. Joker is quite a controversial movie, or at least was when I actually heard people talking about it. What reviewers said that the film would do is that it would cause people to commit violent acts in theaters but, that's probably just because of that whole Dark Knight Rises where there was an active shooter in the theater. Another reason is because they believe that people will route for Arthur because of how influential the movie could be to people who aren't too sure what's good and what's bad. That is also untrue, the film does not want you to route for Arthur, but it also doesn't want you to not route for him. The film is just trying to tell a story without any opinions. It is clear to that what Arthur is not doing good though, it's actually very clear. But uh... Enough talking about what critics say, it's time for my opinion. Out of these three films that I reached recently, Joker has got to be my favorite. The acting from the characters, specifically Joaquin Phoenix, is brilliant. Every character feels like they are a real person. The camera work is beautiful. The sound track is full of great songs and fits really well with the time period and setting. The film set being mostly in the Bronx was a fantastic idea because of uh... How not very clean it is there. Sure, there are some scenes that are a little bit odd, but it fits. The reason to why it fits is because Arthur is mentally unhealthy and all the scenes that are odd involve him doing something a bit unrealistic. When you look into it though, it makes sense for him to do the stuff he does. Well, not really all the murder and stuff but a scene that has made many critics very confused. The scene where he takes out everything from his fridge and crawls in. At first, yes this is very confusing, but if you think about it, it makes sense. Arthur wants to isolate himself from the world, he even believes that he belongs in a mental asylum. He wants to be isolated from the world. It is the only thing that will make him feel safe. So, anyway. The film was fantastic and I would recommend it a lot if you have not yet watched it despite me saying spoiler warning.
Huh. I really have nothing else to say. So, I guess this is probably the end then, unless I come up with something else.
Probably the End
Yeah, this is the end. I guess this wasn't really More Random Things but it should probably be called a Person Who is Not Good at Critiquing Things Reviews Movies, but that's quite a long title. I'll just stick with this title because it's a lot shorter. Anyway, thank you for reading through this if ya did. You uh... Probably didn't because of that spoiler warning and are just reading this expecting there to be more but, sadly, or maybe happily, there is no more. Sorry to disappoint if you wanted more. Glad to help if you weren't looking for a long read at all. So... Goodbye and thank you for reading this even if you did not read the entirety.
