Electronics should be limited for kids under the age of 10




Eyes locked to the bright screen, drool dripping down its mouth. No food no drinks no bathroom breaks. Like a zombie without a doubt. Too much time on a screen has been connected to not getting enough sleep, bad grades, and a greater risk of obesity. Spending too much time looking at a screen can cause eye problems and cancer. Kids should be limited to two or three hours of screen time. Electronics should be limited for kids under the age of 10.

To begin, kids spend too much time looking at a screen and it can cause behavior change and become aggressive. According to Katherine Lee, “Research has linked excessive screen time to school problems, aggression, and other behavioral issues. The sensory overload causes kids to have poor focus and depletes their mental energy, which often leads to anger and explosive behavior.” Kids could start having problems in school and get bad grades. They could also get really worked up and start problems with a family member or friend relationship. If someone's behavior gets awful you should take them to a counselor.

In addition, it causes a greater chance for kids to be obese and cause weight gain. According to Emily Almond, “However, for the first time WCRF’s expert panel found sufficient strong evidence for a separate conclusion: that greater screen time is a convincing cause of weight gain, overweight, and obesity in children.” Kids lose track of time and sit looking at a screen all day. They are sitting for hours straight, probably eating snacks here and there, and not getting any exercise. You should get at least one hour of exercise a day.

It may be argued, some kids use electronics to use programs to bring out creativity, imagination, and
personality. Also, sometimes use the internet to research for projects, homework, and assignments. To add, a lot of the time they can be using it for an educational program but, most of the time they are playing violent video games, or watching something their parents wouldn’t approve of. Younger kids do not know some things that pop up on their feed or automatically play, which could be harmful to them. Additionally, most kids spend time looking on a screen before bed and that stops you from sleeping as well.

To sum it all up, limiting kid's screen time is a necessity and it’s for their own safety. To finish, too much screen time can cause eye strain, obesity, aggressive behavior, unhealthy family relationships, and cancer. Next time you go and play video games, watch YouTube, or TikTok after a little while look at the time. If it has been over two or three hours you should stop and maybe read or do something else.
