The New York Titans franchise was created in 1959 they played in the AFL. And they were a below-average team. In 1964, they changed their name to the New York Jets and moved into their new stadium called Shea Stadium. In January 1965, they signed rookie Quarterback Joe Namath, then they started to get better. In 1967, they had their first winning season. In January 1969 the Jets played the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III the Jets were underdogs. Then QB Joe Namath guaranteed that the Jets would win the Super Bowl. The Jets went on to beat the colts 16-7 and Joe Namath's Guarantee became one of the most remembered things to ever happen in football.

In 1970 the NFL and AFL merged, and they decided to keep NFL and split them up into two conferences the AFC and the NFC. The Jets made the playoffs in 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986, and 1991. In 1984, they moved from Shea Stadium to Giant Stadium. In 1986 the team started with a 10-1 record but because of injury the Jets lost their next 5 games and lost in the playoffs. In 1996 the Jets went 1-15 and started getting worse, then they hired Bill Parcels. In 1998 the Jets went 12-4 and made it to the AFC Championship game and lost to the Denver Broncos. They also traded for Curtis Martin from the Patriots. In 2000 the Jets hired Bill Belichick but, after 1 day he resigned and went to the Patriots. In 2009 the Jets drafted Mark Sanchez with the 1st overall pick and made the playoffs. The Jets beat the Bengals and the Chargers in the playoffs but lost to the Colts, Mark Sanchez became the 2nd player ever to win multiple playoff games as a rookie. In 2010 the Jets made the playoffs again, this time they upset the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the playoffs. In the Conference finals, they played the Pittsburgh Steelers, at one point they were down 24-0, but they came back, but still lost 24-19. After that, the whole team went down and kept getting worse. In 2010, they moved into MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. In 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 they didn't make the playoffs. On March 12, 2015, the Jets traded for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. They were 10-5 with 1 more game and the chance to make the playoffs, but they lost to the Bills and missed the playoffs. The next season Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn't do anything. So they traded him and went 5-11 in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, they drafted USC QB Sam Darnold with the 3rd overall pick. That season they went 4-12. In the offseason, they signed RB Le'veon Bell and changed their uniforms. This season the Jets are 3-7. That is the history of the New York Jets.
