(Author's Note-Hey friends!
I'm sorry for my spamming, and all over the place formatting, I'm just trying to feel my way through these friends. And yes, I know this says No.5 even though No.4 isn't out, but No.4 is the history of the N-word and I want to make that one really, superb for y'all.)
BURNOUT
Have you heard this word before? Maybe in the infamous Cartoon Network television show, "The Amazing World of Gumball" (If you still have cable, boomer). In the show, Banana Joe's mother experiences burnout, where her brain goes to mush, and she can't mentally function. Though none of us (I hope) have gone through a burnout so severe, it is a real issue in the seventh grade.We all enter SVMS in fifth grade, but if you didn't know fifth grade is still elementary. Seventh grade, as we've been told again, and again, and again by Mr. Jenkins, bless his soul, is when elementary ends. Seeing as how about 30-50% of our grade have been, are, or on the verge of ineligibility, we're all struggling a bit.
Symptoms of burnout are little, but noticeable if you look hard enough. Sleeping and eating issues, low productivity, change in behavior, lack of hygiene, and other things such as lethargy (appearing tired) can signal a burnout. Especially look out for your student-athlete friends. As a student-athlete myself, I can tell you I am very, very, very burnt out and am in need of a break. Favorably a break with books, movies, and popcorn topped off with M&Ms.
If you or someone you care about is facing burnout, here are some tips to help out:
- Focus on improving time management
- Sleep whenever possible
- Utilize ISTA, I know we all like to talk and do un-scholarly things
- Ask for help. Teachers are scary, some more than others. Tell them you're struggling
- Journal! Look at how you spend/waste your time and improve. Self reflection helps.
