What is Brexit?
The word Brexit means the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Brexit is a combination of British and exit. The UK Prime Minister Theresa May resigned after her Brexit deal was rejected three times. Boris Johnson the UK’s current Prime Minister took over a few days after. The EU is an economic and political union involving 28 European countries. It allows free trade and free movement of people, to live and work in whichever country they choose.

The UK joined in the year 1973. They joined when the EU was known as the European Economic Community or (EEC). If the UK leaves, it would be the first state to withdraw from the EU. Following June 2016 referendum in which 51.9% voted to leave, the UK government officially started the withdrawal in March 2017, starting the two-year process that was due to conclude with the UK withdrawing from the EU on 29 March 2019. The European Union has agreed with the UK to extend the Brexit deadline farther until 31 January 2020.
