My family and I walked past a small dog in a cage. It was a girl and she looked around a few weeks old. She was shivering in the corner with her head hanging down. When she tried to rest her whole body shook making it an impossible task. We wanted to comfort the dog but the workers wouldn't let us. Animals are abused, they have dangerous diseases, and are dying only a little bit after being bought. Pet stores should not be allowed to sell animals.
Firstly, pets are abused before being sold to pet stores. For example, in the article, 4 Things pets Stores Don't Want You To Know, it states, "Many live in cramped, uncomfortable cages, chained outside all day long or kept alone." Animals are being kept in confined places and they need exercise to stay healthy. Breeding mills are treating animals like merchandise. For those that don't know, breeding mills are where animals are forced to mass-produce. They have caused animals to have health issues and to be unsocial. Once the animals are born they sell them to pet stores no matter what condition they are in.
In addition, dogs from pet stores contain diseases. For example, the article, Pet Stores Puppies Carry Dangerous Bacteria, says, "Puppies in pet stores appear to have transmitted a dangerous, antibiotic-resistant germ that's sickened 30 people across 13 states..." This shows pet stores are not paying attention to what they are selling to people. Their carelessness has caused 30 people to become sick. Four people even had to be hospitalized. People shouldn't be getting sick just because of wanting a new companion.
Some people say pet stores are where they find another member of the family, but many animals die after being sold. A comment on the store, Your Pet Experts, states, "I got a dog from there and she died 6 months later." This exemplifies that even though it might be fun to buy a pet there's always going to be a downside. Burying your pet just after buying it is not a pleasant memory to have. You buy a pet so you can play with it and pet it but it dying right afterward is not something you want to deal with. Pets are expensive and when your pet dies all that money is down the drain. That is why people go to the shelter or adopt pets.
Selling pets in pet stores need to be banned. Animals are being mistreated, they contain dangerous bacteria, and are dying. Spread the news! Tell people to stop going to pet stores. If we stop going then stores will have to stop selling pets and that will end pet cruelty.

Oh my, that's horrible! My mother bought my two baby guinea pigs from PetSmart, and they seemed perfectly fine. Although I didn't go to the store with her, my older sister did. She said they have very big cages and had lots of room to play with their other cage mates. We have had them for four months now (7 months old from birth), and they are as happy as can be. Also, don't know if this applies to guinea pigs too or just cats and dogs. I don't know, just thought I should put that out there.
