Teens Should be Limited To Technology

Most parents are blinded by the fact that technology can hurt a child's brain. Teens and young children are delaying their brain development and causing themselves loneliness and depression. Parents should limit the amount of technology their child uses.

Technology hurts the way children sleep. Technology before bedtime can make your mind start thing about the things you're looking at, making it harder to fall asleep. Also, the light from your phone strains your eyes, making you more tired in the morning. In the Article Why everyone should be concerned about technology, it says, "Every hour of screen time was related to 3 to 8 fewer minutes of sleep a night." This explains how children using technology aren't getting the sleep that they need. Some people say that educational technology does improve learning. But, not every child or teen is using their cell phones for educational purposes.

Second of all, Technology can lower a teen's self-esteem. A child or teen could post a photo and get comments saying that they are ugly or overweight. Just by saying one thing can change the way a child views themselves. In the article Children with technology,  it says, " Children lose the ability to communicate face to face and can experience loneliness and depression." This shows that technology causes loneliness depression. Some may say that technology is a way for kids to interact with the world. This is true, but the problem is that children use it too much.

Lastly, technology can affect your hearing, eyesight, and strain your body. A child's hearing could be damaged by headphones or earbuds being too loud. Technology causes eye strain and dry eye syndrome. If you are sitting in the same position for hours you could hurt you back, which could cause back issues. In the article, Kids Tech, It says, "Pain in their fingers and wrists, narrowed blood vessels in their eyes, and neck and back pain from being slumped over their phones, tablets, and computers." This explains that teens are causing themselves issues with their bodies, sometimes without knowing it. Some may say that children with smartwatches do more activities to earn awards on their watch. But, what about the kids who are too young or don't have the money to have one of those.

Teens use way too much technology without their parents even realizing it. Although tech can be used to learn things and interact with the world, parents are blinded by what's actually happening. Parents should be more aware of what's actually happening.

  1. You have a lot of great evidence. Your post is really good and will persuade people to limit kids and screens! Good job!
