Why Teenagers Need Recess
Have you ever seen teenagers that just can't sit still and are always so hyperactive, this is why. Teens are restless in class, there’s no doubt about it. Having recess would solve that issue. Teens do not get enough exercise or have enough time to socialize.
First, if teenagers do not get enough exercise, it can lead to obesity. As of 2019, 18.5% of teens and kids are obese that's 13.7 MILLION - NCHS (National Center for Health Statistics) Obesity can often lead to health problems such as strokes, heart disease and yes, even CANCER. Recess could help prevent all of those.
Also, teenagers are always told to "be quiet" or "now is not the time". Well, when is the time? “Recess is the time: recess gives time social and emotional interactions they can’t get in the classroom...It lends itself to more social interactions and development," notes Principal William Clark. When kids become more social with their friends, they will become happier and it will become an overall better place for teenagers to be.
Well, some say it would take time away from school time. And with less learning time that could be a problem. I say that if kids have recess they will want to learn knowing they get to have a designated time to talk and have fun with their friends.
All in all, the bottom line is that teens need recess. It would help with exercising and socializing. That is why we should all push for recess, for teens.
