This is going to be a hard pill to swallow

Today we tackle a controversial topic (Mr.Bender please don't take this down).
I've been debating lately, and I figured I'd ket my opinions be openly known because I want to see how the general public reacts!
There is a term, (I'll say C, just to save myself), and I'm a kind of in the hot seat for my opinion on it.

Most of you will skip past this post, but at least read this. in my opinion, racism isn't bullying. Racism and discrimination walk the same line, with small differences. From the perspective of a black young woman walking through the world, racism is centuries, (over 400 years, exactly) of the world being pined against you, for your skin color. Racism is sitting alone in kindergarten, because of notion "black people kill people" swept through the grade. Racism is being followed around a normal store, having an employee look over your shoulder at all times. Racism is hearing 'HBO; Haitian Booty Scratcher" all throughout my childhood. Racism is constantly being asked, "Were you born here {America}"?. Racism is being stared at when immigration, or slavery, or Dr. Martin Luther King is mentioned. Racism is the N-word, used to keep me, my family, my black friends, and my ancestors for centuries silent for all of American history, to this day.

Discrimination is different. Discrimination is the 'c-word'. Discrimination is "Haha white boy". But discrimination against white people isn't violence. It's not being called "ghetto". It's none of those, discrimination is ignorance and stupidity.

In my opinion, as a black girl who faces racism each day, you cannot be racist to white people, because they don't feel the pains of blackness, or being Hispanic, or Asian, or Native American. Discrimination is not good, I condone it. But stop trying to be oppressed.

Black history month is needed because we celebrate white history every day! We appreciate long straight hair and tiny noses. We celebrate big blue eyes. White is the standard. Black history is different because it comes with hardship. White history comes with privilege.

I am a black girl, from a black family trying to navigate the world. While I'm here, I want to educate those of you who don't know. I should not be afraid that my father, my brother, or my friend will be the next Trayvon Martin or Tamir Rice. Do you know who those people are? Let me tell you. Those are people killed for no reason, other than that they were black. Black men and boys are killed for nothing but existing. That is real racism, not being asked to not wear a traditionally black hairstyle, like box braids.

I'm not a bad person. I am not argumentative. I am simply existing and making sure I'm heard. There are very very little black kids at SV, I'm making sure we are heard. I will not be talked over. I will share my experiences.

Fear is walking in
Afraid others will distinguish you, only for your skin
Fear is the lights, blue and red
Hoping and praying you don’t go home dead
Life being different sure wears you thin
It takes a toll, being unloved only for your skin
Fear is being the only one in the room
And passed down lessons on how not to meet your doom
Show your hands, pray just in case
Anybody wanna make this all about race?
Fear is turning this in
Hoping I’m not impolite for mentioning America’s old sin
Fear is the confederate flag
Don’t you dare be proud of the past America’s had
Fear is my blackness, spoken about never before
All we’ve been taught is our lives will be war
My fear is a fear y'all ain’t ever felt before

  1. I agree so much!! You described the true meaning of racism perfectly because even if someone says the COLOR "black" it is considered racist and I think that's so dumb!

    1. I'm so glad you get it! Saying 'black' isn't racist, I prefer it much over being called "African American", a term which I'm not.
