SPILLS OF RANDOMNESS #4 - Holiday Traditions

The holiday seasons are filled with cheer, goodness and......... Holiday Traditions, apparently, because that's what you're going to hear about today whether you like it or not!

Whether you celebrate Christmas, some other holiday, or none at all, I'm sure you all have traditions. Unfortunately, I don't. You see, when I was little my entire extended family would go over to my Aunt Lee and Uncle Roy's house to celebrate. Literally, EVERYONE would come. They would even go as far as inviting strangers. But, then, they stopped doing that when I was about six. Until I was about nine, my Aunt Diana would have a gathering at her house, but with not nearly as many people. Then, she stopped doing that because she came into a lot of debt when her third husband died.

Right around that time, my Oma went into the nursing home. After that, no one held any gatherings anywhere. They all just did... I don't really know what with their immediate families. My immediate family just brought my Oma over to eat with us on Christmas until I was eleven when the nursing home said she could no longer leave the home. For the past two years, we've been really not doing anything different from any other night of the year at Christmas. We go out to eat, like every night. Although, we do all sleep in the living room. And sometimes we play hide-and-seek-in-the-dark. That's fun. Can you tell I did not want to blog about holiday traditions, Mr. Bender?

What I really want is for our cousins to come over. They make Christmas really fun.
