Ford Mach 1 (1970)

Ford Mach 1 History to Now
(1970 and 2020)

1970 Mach 1

History

The Mach 1 started its production in 1969-1973. This was a more affordable performance Mustang that made the average person feel like they are a  race car driver. The V8 engine, that the car has gives it the performance and appearance enhancements including sports suspension and deep dish wheel covers. The base price for a 1970 Mach 1 started at $3271 and grew over time.

What does Mach 1 mean?

Mach number is the ratio of an object's speed to the speed of sound. Mach 1, then means the speed of sound, which is around 761 mph at sea level on an ordinary day. The term is also used as a metaphor for high speeds.

A New Generation of  Mach 1´s

In 2003, Ford reintroduced a new generation of the Mach 1. The 2003 Mach 1 combined the style of the then-modern Mustang with some early generation features. They produced only 7,182 of this Mach 1 and offered six different colors. These colors included Torch Red (which was the most popular), Azure Blue, Black, Dark Shadow Grey, Zinc Yellow, and Oxford White.

The Machs of the Future

In 2021, drivers will be able to purchase a new Mach-E, which will be an all-electric performance SUV. The Mach-E will include a new, hands-free driver-assist system, and will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds with its powerful 459hp (horsepower). Drivers who purchase the Mach-E will be able to receive federal tax incentives up to $7,500 because of the vehicle being all-electric.
