THE GAMES WILL COLLIDE OR MAYBE NOT
So you all by now should know about the game Overwatch well at least you should it's been out for three years now. Well, Blizzard is working on a new version of the game called Overwatch 2. The games will co-exist in a shared online world everything you have in Overwatch 1 like skins, sprays, emotes, etcetera can be transferred to Overwatch 2 and the same thing with Overwatch 2's skins, and maps can be transferred to Overwatch 1. Maps and player-versus-player and player-versus-environment modes will be playable in both games or at least most features will be playable in the original Overwatch. Blizzard says they won't leave Overwatch 1 players behind and eventually, Blizzard plans to merge the two experiences will this be enough incentive for current Overwatch players to buy the sequel? It looks like Overwatch 2 is more of a paid expansion than a sequel Jeff Kaplan said towards the end of BlizzCon 2019 "For us as gamers, sequels make us nervous more than anything else so what we're hoping to do with Overwatch 2 is really redefine what a sequel means." In a phone interview, Kaplan called the game a sequel in terms of artistic and creative direction in his eyes Overwatch 2 "Isn't as controversial as it sounds." he also says it's incomparable to a DLC (downloadable content) because the content for Overwatch 2 is considerably larger. " This isn't just DLC or an expansion," Kaplan said in the interview. "I play a lot of games. I can't think of a single DLC or expansion of this magnitude." Blizzard is keeping some additional heroes and modes under wrap, so we don't know how substantial Overwatch 2 will be Kaplan also believes the new PVE mode is enough to incentivize players to purchase Overwatch 2 since part of the Overwatch community wants a better exploration of the franchise's lore and story. "There's so many people who are deeply engaged with our characters because we've put these heroes in the forefront," Kaplan said. "People have fallen in love with them who aren't necessarily the best PVP players, and they have a tough time sometimes in a competitive setting. They would love to engage with the charters in a way that is a little bit less high pressure to them. So we felt like, you know, if we could deliver one really massive feature to our fans, it would be to blow out the co-operative side of the game." PVE modes are completely new to Overwatch; previous iterations, like Uprising, appeared as a limited time events that players could participate in for free. Overwatch 2's PVE mode sounds more involved than in the past. Both games will continue to receive live updates.
REVENUE AND HOW MUCH IT MIGHT COST
Loot boxes are a big part of Blizzard's revenue from Overwatch, in-game purchases alone have made $1 billion. People are saying to make Overwatch 1 free to play like Fortnite or Apex Legends has done which both companies made from in-game purchases. Epic or Epic Games who made Fortnite has made $318 million from in-game purchases. Respawn Entertainment who made Apex Legends has made $92 million from in-game purchases. People think if Blizzard makes Overwatch 1 free to play it'll be profitable like Fortnite or Apex Legends did for the companies that run them. Then once Overwatch 2 is out for awhile make that free to play also and make Overwatch 3 and so on and so forth. It's unclear what the price for Overwatch 2 will be some people guesstimate that the game could be as low as $30 or a standard $60 for a new game which most games are.
